BCREA Welcomes New Real Estate Council Members

Vancouver, BC – October 13, 2016. The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) welcomes the appointment of the Real Estate Council of BC members, including Chair Robert D. Holmes.

"Our recommendation to government has stressed the importance of having Council members who are thoroughly familiar with the practice of real estate in BC, including current industry experience and expertise," said Robert Laing, BCREA CEO. "We are happy to see that will be the case with the new Council and look forward to supporting them in their efforts, however we can."

With Council members now appointed instead of elected by licensees, the Association noted the importance of having experienced and qualified individuals dealing with protecting the public interest in real estate‐related matters.

Council composition was a major concern raised by real estate brokers and REALTORS® across the province, and formed part of the public submission BCREA made to the government in response to the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) recommendations, which can be found here: http://bcrea.bc.ca/docs/government-relations/2016-09-public-trust.pdf.
