BCREA's REP Accredited Course Descriptions

These courses have been accredited for the Real Estate Council of British Columbia’s Relicensing Education Program (REP). They have been developed by BCREA and are offered by the Association's 11 BC real estate boards. Please consult the REP course schedule to determine when the courses will be offered.

Real Estate E&O Insurance Commercial Legal Update

3/4 DAY – 6 PDP CREDITS / REP ACCREDITED (FULL DAY)

Attend the Real Estate E&O Insurance Commercial Legal Update course to stay current with legal issues faced by commercial licensees including:

  • components of a binding contract;
  • letters of intent and issues resulting from the use of bare trusts;
  • specific contract clauses such as exemption clauses, liquidated damages clauses, merger and bring down clauses;
  • restrictions on assignments of contracts of purchase and sale;
  • duty to disclose latent defects;
  • duty of good faith.

The central theme throughout this course will be how to better assist your clients and bulletproof your contracts.

Real Estate E&O Insurance Legal Update 2013

3/4 DAY – 6 PDP CREDITS /REP ACCREDITED (FULL DAY)

How can you be a competent licensee if you don’t stay up-to-date with legal requirements? Legal Update is an easy way to stay current by emphasizing developments important to licensees in trading services. You will:

  • describe the history of agency;
  • expand on Issues with Disclosure;
  • expand on Issues with contracts and standard forms;
  • emphasizing the necessary actions to complete when parties agree that someone other than the brokerage will hold the deposit;
  • recognize that the client will have specific instructions when selling their property and it is a licensee's fiduciary duty to honour those instructions;
  • identify the incentives that parties may have to avoid obligations under a contract if the opportunity arises;
  • expand on issues with professional conduct;
  • expand on issues of legislation;
  • identify the impacts of the property owner's obligations and legislation concerning underground oil storage tanks and contamination; and
  • among other things, recognizing the implications of using email; all of this and more, in Legal Update 2013.
