Accommodating Changes to the Relicensing Education Program (REP)
As part of the Independent Advisory Group (IAG) recommendations, The Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) made significant changes to the mandatory REP course, Legal Update. The new Legal Update 2018 course features a blended learning model that requires REALTORS® to give themselves more time for the licence renewal process.
Council is recommending that you sign up for the new blended course a minimum of 8 weeks in advance of your licence expiry date. It is also important that you allocate enough time to complete the course work.
The first component of the course is online and takes two weeks. It consists of five self-paced modules, each followed by a ten-question multiple-choice quiz. Make sure that you give yourself enough time to complete this component, as it will take about 5 to 6 hours.
Following the first component, there is a mandatory waiting period of five business days during which you are to review the course material. The second component is a one-day, in-class session that is comprised of case scenarios and interactive group discussions. Options are available for distance-based learning for licensees in remote locations.
It can take up to four weeks for Council to approve your licence renewal application after you have received confirmation that you have completed the course. Therefore, the eight week recommended timeframe is important to ensure you can renew your licence in time.
As a result of the IAG recommendations, ongoing changes are being made to REALTORS®' continuing professional education requirements. This includes a newly proposed REP course on Rule changes in addition to the mandatory Legal Update course. BCREA continues to advocate on behalf of all REALTORS®, but it is important for the Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate (OSRE) to hear your voice on the matter.
