Instructor Development Workshop and Professional Excellence

Feb 28, 2018

As part of BCREA's commitment to the ongoing improvement of the real estate profession, each year BCREA's Education Department holds the Instructor Development Workshop (IDW). This year's IDW came at a critical time concerning the impending rule changes.

Four representatives from the Real Estate Council of British Columbia, including Executive Officer Erin Seeley, held a panel to field questions and discuss the implementation of the impending changes as they pertain to REALTOR® education. The new rules will affect the landscape of the real estate profession, and changes are being made to REALTOR® education to accommodate them.

Legal Update 2018 was previewed, with instructors Peter Borszcz, Jennifer Clee and Mike Mangan each teaching a section. The response to the new course was overwhelmingly positive and the focus on learner engagement in the delivery of the new content was met with great enthusiasm. Using the design-thinking process, Dr. Elizabeth Childs and Dr. Susan Crichton encouraged instructors to consider the core competencies of REALTORS® now and in the near future, and had instructors describe the educated and competent REALTOR® of tomorrow.

This year, BCREA was also honoured to bestow the annual Robert Laing Professional Excellence Award on behalf of BCREA and UBC to Jennifer Lynch. A leader in the instructor community, Jennifer embodies the gold standard of professionalism and aids in the continuing development of Professional Development Program courses and the Applied Practice Course. BCREA congratulates Jennifer on her amazing contributions to REALTOR® education and their impacts on professionalism.
