New Education Requirements

The changes to the Real Estate Rules coming into effect on June 15 will not only change the education materials for REALTORS®, but also include new education requirements. BCREA has been working closely with the Real Estate Council of British Columbia (the Council) and UBC Sauder's Real Estate Division to implement new course material that will incorporate these changes.

Relicensing Education Program

The Council's new online course titled Rule Changes: Agency and Disclosure is mandatory for all trading and rental services licensees. It is a self-paced online course that will take approximate five to six hours, and must be completed within three days from when it is started. The fee is $75, and the course has five modules that address the specific Rule changes.

Priority access to register for the course will be given based on licence expiry date. Upon completion, you'll receive a certificate of completion that must be submitted with your licence renewal application. For information on when you will have access to register and how to register, please see the Council's webpage. Note that Strata managers are not required to complete this course.

Applied Practice Course

Given the significant impact of the Rule changes on how licensees conduct day-to-day business, much of the material for the Applied Practice Course has gone through major revisions to ensure it is relevant and accurate. Residential Component 1 of the updated course was launched on May 28th and the updated Commercial APC course will launch later this summer. The Council and BCREA's updated standard forms have been incorporated into the course, so that licensees can get to know them before using them in transactions.

Professional Development Program Courses

BCREA's PDP courses will also be updated to reflect the Rule changes. Throughout the summer, we will be working with subject matter experts and instructors to make the needed revisions and ensure ongoing Rule compliance.
