The Legal Update 2018 course has a different format from previous years. The course now includes both a self-paced online component as well as a full-day classroom session, and both must be completed before licensees can apply to renew their licence with the Real Estate Council of British Columbia.

It can take up to one month to complete the Legal Update 2018 course. Licensees must also submit their renewal application, along with their Legal Update letter of completion, at least 30 days before their licence expiry date. As such, licensees are strongly encouraged to register for the Legal Update course at least eight weeks prior to their licence expiry date, to allow ample time to complete the course and submit their renewal application.

Legal Update 2018 is an innovative course that strives to maintain higher standards of practice for real estate professionals in BC. A testament to the quality and value that the course delivers to licensees in BC, Legal Update 2018 recently won a prestigious ARELLO® Education Award.

The online component of the course starts on specific dates. Licensees should allow up to two weeks to successfully complete the online component of the course. Licensees must also complete the online component at least one week before attending a classroom session. The online component includes self-paced modules, and each module includes a final learning assessment that licensees must successfully complete before moving on to the next section.

The classroom component of the course is also offered on specific dates, at various locations across the province. For licensees who will be traveling to attend a classroom session, we recommend registering for the course now, before winter conditions become a factor. For licensees living in rural areas, there are distance-based options available. However, these options are limited and registration fills up well in-advance.

After completing the Legal Update course, licensees receive a letter of completion. This letter must be submitted along with their licence renewal application.

To reiterate, it can take up to one month to complete the Legal Update course. Licensees must also submit their renewal application, along with their Legal Update letter of completion, at least 30 days before their licence expiry date. The course is in high demand, especially this time of year, and registrations are filling up well in-advance. To avoid late fees and delays in renewing, licensees are strongly encouraged to register for Legal Update at least eight weeks prior to their licence expiry date.
