BCREA’s Legal Defence Reserve is a useful support system for REALTORS®, though not likely one you will want to find yourself needing.

Through licensing education and ongoing professional development, we know Realtors in BC are committed to upholding the highest standard of professionalism when working with clients and conducting real estate transactions. By way of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, you commit to acting with “absolute honesty and integrity in business dealings” in “co-operation with and fairness to all.”

But sometimes, despite your best efforts, you might find yourselves facing discipline for conduct – knowingly or unknowingly – in contravention of Real Estate Rules, or other legal challenges.

In some instances, you might qualify for support from BCREA’s Legal Defence Reserve (LDR). The LDR was created to aid Realtors by supporting litigation or providing legal assistance for issues of provincial significance. Funds from the reserve might be used for legal and other costs related to litigation or disciplinary matters.

To apply, visit the Legal Defence Reserve page on BCREA Access, complete an application form and submit it – along with written support from your managing broker and member board – via email to [email protected].

BCREA will ensure the submission meets the prescribed criteria to be forwarded to the Legal Defence Committee (LDC). The LDC will then review the submission and you will be contacted with their decision.
