BCREA, the Real Estate Council of BC (RECBC) and the Real Estate Errors & Omissions Insurance Corporation (E&O) are pleased to introduce the What Would You Do? Presentation Series for managing brokers. This is a series of PowerPoint presentations that managing brokers can give to their REALTORS® to facilitate discussions around risk management. Each presentation focuses on a different area of risk in real estate practice.

First presentation now available

The first PowerPoint presentation in the series, which explores some of the risks around implied agency, is now available for download, along with PDF speaking notes. This presentation and future presentations will also be available on REALTOR Link®.

We encourage managing brokers to give this presentation on implied agency to your Realtors. As RECBC recently released guidance on section 5-17 (dealing with dual agency in under-served remote locations) and section 5-18 (conflicts of interests when acting for multiple clients) of the Rules, it's a great time to provide support and training on the topic.

Future What Would You Do? presentations

Each presentation in the series will be delivered in a similar format, following a Realtor through a situation that poses some sort of risk and using case studies and discussions to determine their potential course of action. The remaining presentations will be released quarterly in 2020, with the next presentation on the risks of Realtors practicing outside their area of expertise.

Eligible for self-directed learning

These presentations are designed to be one hour in length and to encourage audience engagement. If managing brokers choose to monitor and provide proof of attendance, each presentation can meet the criteria for one hour of self-directed learning.

Community of Practice for Managing Brokers

This project is part of a larger plan to support managing and associate brokers with timely information and resources. Another way we are supporting brokers is through the Community of Practice for Managing Brokers, a virtual community where brokers can connect, hear from guest speakers, find valuable information and resources, and share best practices.
