Commercial Course Information

1. When can I register?

   In accordance with regulations established by the RECBC, you must register for theCommercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course prior to licence issuance. Your application must be accompanied by a letter confirming the applicant’s primary practice is commercial real estate and signed by a managing broker, director or officer of a brokerage. You must provide proof of registration in the course as a requirement of licensing.

   Licensees who aren't primarily engaged in commercial real estate but have an interest in the practice can register for the course subject to availability. These individuals are required to pay the full course fee.

2. How and where is the course offered?

   The course consists of ten units, each of which is three hours in duration, for a total of 30 hours of instruction. Classes are conducted on a week-long basis.

   The Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course is offered in Vancouver only. BCREA reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment. Should it become necessary to cancel a course, students will be transferred to the next available course at no additional fee.

3. What is the course fee?

   Please note that tuition fees are subject to change without notice. The tuition fee for 2013 is $675 plus $33.75 GST, which includes all course materials. This fee must be paid in full at the time of registration.

   Tuition fees are payable to BCREA by Visa, MasterCard, money order or cheque. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted. Online payments must be made by credit card. Tuition fee receipts for income tax purposes are issued with the certificate upon completion of the course.

   Non-Sufficient Funds
   The fee for NSF cheques is $30 plus GST. The replacement payment will only be accepted by certified cheque, money order or cash.

4. What if I miss part of the course?

   BCREA has a strict NO SHOW POLICY. Students who are absent from the course and have not contacted BCREA in advance, will be required to pay the full course fee of $708.75 ($675.00 plus GST) to re-register for the course.

   Students are expected to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction.  Any absence from the course, including late arrival or early departure will prohibit the granting of credit for the unit. BCREA has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for lateness and students who miss part or all of a unit will be required to repeat the entire unit. A makeup fee will be charged in the amount of $70.88 ($67.50 plus GST) to reschedule the class.

   Absence from the course and subsequent delay in completing the course will only be approved for serious illness or compassionate reasons. Absence will not be approved for holidays, business appointments or other personal reasons. Any requests for an absence must be submitted in writing and emailed to sallen@bcrea.bc.ca in advance, with documentation (e.g., doctor’s certificate) in support of the request.

5. Can I cancel my course registration?

   Requests for cancellation from the Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course must be made in writing and emailed to sallen@bcrec.bc.ca. NO REFUNDS will be processed for cancellation once the course has commenced.

   Cancellation from the course prior to the course date will be refunded subject to the following administration charges:

   • More than 10 business days in advance of the course date - $70.88 (10% of the course fee plus GST)
   • Less than 10 business days in advance of the course date -  $141.75  (20% of the course fee plus GST)

   Refunds will be issued by cheque and require approximately 3 weeks for processing. Please note that refunds are not issued until BCREA has received notification from the Real Estate Council of BC, that the licence has been surrendered.

6. Can I transfer to a different course?

   The Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course is offered only twice a year – April and October.

   Requests for transfers must be made in writing and emailed to sallen@bcrea.bc.ca 10 business days prior to the course start date. Please note that a transfer fee is applicable for each transfer request.

   Transfer requests are subject to the following administration charges:

   • More than 10 business days in advance of the course date - $70.88 (10% of the course fee plus GST)
   • Less than 10 business days in advance of the course date - $141.75 (20% of the course fee plus GST)

7. Is there an accelerated course?

   Individuals from British Columbia who are requalifying for their licence or individuals transferring from within the United States are exempt from units two and five of the Commercial Trading Services Applied Practice Course. Attendance at all other units is required.

8. How can I register?

   Online registration is not available for this course. To register, complete the Application for Admission Form. Your application must include a cheque or money order payable to the British Columbia Real Estate Association and be mailed, faxed or delivered to:

10. How will my registration information be managed?

    BCREA establishes a confidential file for each individual who registers for the CommercialTrading Services Applied Practice Course. Access to information in an individual’s file is limited to selected employees for education purposes and for reporting to RECBC to update licensing records.
