BCREA is proud to announce that on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, we were recognized with two Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO®) Awards. These honours highlight our commitment to excellence in communications and leadership in educational programs related to North America’s real estate sector.
BCREA was presented with the Education Award (Miscellaneous) for HR and Mentorship Initiatives and the Communication Award (Miscellaneous) for the Radon Gas Public Awareness Campaign. Both winners represent BCREA’s commitment to supporting the province of British Columbia and providing timely, relevant, and impactful resources to BC’s eight real estate boards and associations and 25,000+ REALTORS®.
The ARELLO® Awards are presented annually to acknowledge outstanding systems, programs, and services that advance the real estate profession and promote public protection.
About the Winning Projects
HR and Mentorship Initiatives
Category: Education (Miscellaneous)
Through our research, BCREA has identified a pressing succession challenge: 47 per cent of managing brokers are planning to retire within the next six years. That creates a real need to build the next generation of brokerage leaders while also supporting today’s brokerages as they navigate the realities of leading teams comprised of independent contractors, employees, and unlicensed staff.
BCREA’s HR and mentorship initiatives, including the courses Building Future Leaders and the Human Resources Playbook for Brokerages, were developed in response to this clear and growing need. Building Future Leaders helps brokerages design mentorship programs, strengthen succession planning, and build the leadership pipeline. And now, through a licensing partnership with the Canadian Real Estate Association, Building Future Leaders is being made available nationally, helping support leadership development across Canada.
The Human Resources Playbook for Brokerages gives managing brokers plain-language guidance and tools to better navigate people-management risks from recruitment and onboarding to conflict resolution, performance management, termination, and workplace safety.
Created with support from the Real Estate Foundation of BC, both courses were designed to create practical impact. Through instructor-led and self-paced formats, learners engage with scenarios, knowledge checks, videos, assessments, and ready-to-use mentorship, succession planning, and HR resources that help brokerages strengthen practice immediately.
Radon Gas Public Awareness Campaign
Category: Communication (Miscellaneous)
Radon is an odourless, invisible, radioactive gas that enters homes through cracks, gaps, and openings. It can damage the cells in our lungs, which increases the risk for lung cancer. Every region in Canada has homes with elevated levels of radon, and every home is potentially at risk. The only way to know the level in an individual home is to test for it.
Starting in 2020, BCREA has collaborated with the BC Lung Foundation to develop multiple resources for BC REALTORS® to use in their work and help inform their communities about the dangers of radon, including six professional development courses that address radon, an FAQ, and multiple checklists.
Developed in part with the BC Lung Foundation and the Real Estate Foundation of BC, the Radon Gas Public Awareness Campaign took this work a step further. While continuing to inform and educate REALTORS®, the campaign also featured advertising on traditional and digital platforms, a dedicated landing page, media outreach, and editorial content.
The overall goal of these tactics was simple: raise awareness and encourage the public to test their homes for radon.
