Climate Hazards Disrupting BC Real Estate
Climate change is creating new challenges for BC's real estate sector. BCREA’s Climate Hazards Disrupting BC Real Estate course examines how drought, atmospheric rivers, flooding, extreme heat, and wildfires are affecting properties, communities, and real estate transactions across the province. Learners will explore climate-related risks and the implications for property values, financing, insurance, and due diligence. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
· understand the impact of changing precipitation and droughts,
· explain why atmospheric rivers and extreme rainfall are so devastating,
· recognize the role of building design in managing extreme heat,
· add the wildfire clause to the Contract of Purchase and Sale (CPS) as appropriate,
· discuss the impact of climate hazards on mortgages and insurance, and
· explain why climate resilient housing is becoming a necessity, not a luxury.
This course also provides tools and resources, such as heat wave, floodplain, and wildfire mapping, that can help REALTORS®identify and communicate climate-related risks.
Note: REALTORS®cannot receive PD hours for both Climate Hazards Disrupting BC Real Estate and Ready, Set, Know: REALTOR® 2025–26 Edition in the same PDP cycle.
