Joint Ownership Models and Considerations
In British Columbia, joint ownership models are becoming more common as housing affordability issues increase. Joint ownership models can complicate the sale or purchase of a property, especially if the REALTORS® involved are unfamiliar with the ownership form. This course, Joint Ownership Models and Considerations, introduces direct co-ownership and alternative shared ownership models. Topics include:
- joint tenants,
- tenants in common,
- shared interest in land,
- timeshares, and
- cooperatives.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to determine when the Strata Property Act most likely does not apply, communicate the differences between ownership and usage rights, and recognize when the right of survivorship applies to property. The course also includes some due diligence considerations for REALTORS® involved in these transactions.
